Listen to: MAHAVAKYA VICARA Rishikesh 2012-13
About this series
Mahavakyas, literally ‘great sayings’, are cryptic equations found in the Upanisads of the four Vedas, revealing the truth of the individual (atma) and the total (Ishvara) as essentially one and the same reality.
Being a self-conscious entity, a human being experiences self doubt, a sense of inadequacy and insecurity. In the absence of self-approval, human beings constantly seek approval from others. The Mahavakyas address the human problem fundamentally, revealing that you are the most significant being. The experiencer/knower (atma) is shown essentially to be identical with Jagatkaranam Brahman, the cause of the world, self-revealing, self-existent consciousness.
In 2012 and 2013, Pujya Swamiji conducted Vedanta retreats at Swami Dayananda ashram in Rishikesh on the topic of ‘Mahavakya Vicara’, enquiry into the great statements of the Veda. During the four Vedanta retreats , three in 2012 and one in 2013, Pujya Swamiji taught one Mahavakya from each of the four Vedas.
