KOODAM Dining Facility

Menu & Meals

The name ‘Koodam’ is taken from the word Tamil word meaning ‘gathering place’. Built in the early 1900s, this house, has been transformed into a large dining facility and well-furnished, well-supplied kitchen, serving a minimum of 25 people each day. Meals are hygienically served on biodegradable banana leaves.

As with any Vedanta retreat setting, traditional Sanskrit prayers are chanted before every meal, thereby sanctifying the food.

Supporting small farms in the Tiruvarur region, we handpick fresh seasonal produce for the daily menu. Milk from the Swami Dayananda Goshala graces the kitchen and is served to our guests.  In addition, organically cultivated heritage rice from Swami Dayananda Farms in Manjakkudi is used for all meals. The eco system in Manjakkudi works on a holistic model, ensuring food security and sustainability at our farm.
Our Kitchen Team
Our kitchen team, fully equipped with culinary skills in traditional forms of food preparation, hail from Southern and Northern India. The team enjoys using a blend of organic, pesticide-free produce from our Manjakkudi farm, and commodities from other local farmers, helping to support the regional economy, while simultaneously creating well-balanced, nutritional meals.
Whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, the traditional dishes are a joy to behold and taste, colourfully contrasting with the natural green of the banana leaf.  Delicately seasoned, never overcooked or over-spiced, the food is naturally sattvic, guaranteed to produce an explosion of delicious flavours on any palate at every meal, without fail!
